PAPA EVENTS
The Allure of Water PAPA's 23rd Exhibition & Sale opened at The Haggin Museum, Stockton, California, with a weekend of gala of events October 14-16, 2011. More than 100 paintings focus on water, our most precious resource for beauty, enjoyment and survival. Six Guest Artists joined PAPA members: Bill Anton, Kathleen Dunphy, Andy Evansen, Jerry Fritzler, Michael Lynch, Jim Morgan and Randall Sexton. A 92-page color catalog illustrates all the artworks from 35 National Park Service units/artists, including a historical essay by Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum. MEMBER NEWS IN PRINT & VIDEO Don Demers is the subject of a new video titled Marine Painting: Art of the Wave available through Interweave Press. When you are painting the sea, "you paint the large basic shapes first, the strength and the power of it ... the nuances, the subtlety happen later," Demer states in the trailer of the video. Kenn Backhaus' 11x14-inch oil painting Road to the Harbor is the cover feature article on Catalina's Wild Side Exhibition in the fall 2011 issue of PleinAir Magazine. Also included are Joe Paquet, John Budicin, John Cosby, Don Demers, Brian Stewart and Matt Smith. Raleigh Kinney is included in the online version of the magazine. Lynn Gertenbach, Jean Perry and Linda Tippetts are part of a landscape article titled Nature's Magic in the November/December 2011 issue of Art of the West.
IMPRESSIONS Helena Fox Fine Art, Charleston, SC, is hosting an exhibition titled The American Landscape: !2 Artists, 12 Impressions, opening October 7, 2011. Included are John Cosby, Don Demers, West Fraser and Joe Paquet.

 Brian Stewart's The Uppercut Gym (right) is included in The Atelier: On the Training of Painters, an exhibition of artworks by students and teachers who studied at The Atelier Studio Program of Fine Art, Minneapolis, MN, at the Bloomington Art Center, MN, through October 14, 2011. WATERMEDIA Frank LaLumia's 17x21-inch watercolor Taking Flight is included in the 35th Annual Birds in Art exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum, Wausau, WI, through November 13, 2011, and in the subsequent traveling exhibition. He is also included in the Rocky Mountain National Watermedia juried exhibition at the Foothills Art Center, Golden, CO, through November 6, 2011. PLEIN AIR ON THE RIM, 3RD ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF ART Raleigh Kinney, Ron Rencher and Linda Tippetts are participating in the Plein Air on the Rim exhibition and sale benefiting the Grand Canyon Association, Grand Canyon, AZ, through November 27, 2011. The artworks survey his favorite landscapes in the Central Valley and Pacific Coast of Northern California. The opening reception takes place October 8 from 1-4 pm. TWO PAINTERS, TWO APPROACHES Gay Faulkenberry is part of a two-person exhibition at South Street Art Gallery, Easton, MD, October 7-November 6, 2011, with a reception from 5-8 pm October 7. Raleigh Kinney will be painting, and an exhibition of Kevin Macpherson’s series titled Reflections on a Pond will be on view in the Sedona Arts Center, AZ, opening October 21 with a reception from 6:30-8:00 pm, followed by a talk on Tuesday, October 25 at 7 pm. The exhibition is accompanied by a hardbound book of the same title that records 365 paintings Macpherson did of a pond in front of his home in Taos, New Mexico.
COLLECTORS' RESERVE Matt Smith, Ralph Oberg and Joan LaRue are participating in the Collectors' Reserve exhibition and sale at the Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, OK, October 22-November 13, 2011.
