PAPA EVENTS

 

The Allure of Water, PAPA's 23rd Exhibition and Sale, opens at The Haggin Museum, Stockton, California, with a weekend of gala of events, including an opening reception on Friday, October 14, 2011, the public opening and an Outdoor Painting Demo/Auction on Saturday, October 15, and Artist Demonstrations on Sunday, October 16. More than 100 paintings focus on w ater, our most precious resource for beauty, enjoyment and survival.  Six Guest Artists will be joining PAPA Signature and Emeritus members:  Bill Anton, Kathleen Dunphy, Andy Evansen, Jerry Fritzler, Michael Lynch, Jim Morgan and Randall Sexton. American Legacy--Our National Parks
PAPA's American Legacy exhibition is on view at the Museum of the Southwest, Midland, TX,  through April 24, 2011. Traveling under the auspices of Smith Kramer Exhibition Services,  the exhibition opens at the Michele & Donald D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts in Springfield, MA, May 22, 2011. Additional venues may be viewed in the Press Room.  To view the entire exhibition, please go to The Haggin Museum web site, which organized the exhibit. A 92-page color catalog illustrates all the artworks from 35 National Park Service units/artists, including a historical essay by Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum. Peter Adams has a feature article, John Cosby is quoted in an article on how to put on a plein-air event, and Christopher Blossom and Don Demers are featured in a collector's article in the Spring 2011 Plein Air Magazine  Ron Rencher is featured in the March/April issue of Art of the West. And the Winners Are ...
West Fraser won the Edgar Payne Best Landscape Award for his 24x30 inch painting Before the World Was Made (right) at the 100th Gold Medal Exhibition of the California Art Club (see more information below).  Skip Whitcomb won the 2011 Artists' Choice Award at the Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale.

 

Master Marine Show
Don Demers is participating in a group show April 1-June 1, 2011, at M Gallery of Fine Art SE. Charleston. SC. 

 

Salon International
Greenhouse Gallery, San Antonio, TX, sponsors its Salon International, April 1-22, 2011, with an awards banquet on Friday, April 1, and open house Saturday, April 2. Participating PAPA members include Lynn Gertenbach and Ron Rencher

 

Hitting 100!
The California Art Club celebrates its 100th annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition April 3-24, 2011, at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, CA. Several PAPA members will be participating, including Peter Adams, John Budicin, Scott Burdick, John Cosby, Gil Dellinger, West Fraser, Lynn Gertenbach, Kevin Macpherson, Joe Paquet. Ray Roberts, and Brian Stewart. View the entire exhibition online at the CAC website. Scottsdale Salon
Legacy Gallery, Scottsdale, AZ, is hosting an exhibition and sale, April 21-May 19, 2011, with a preview opening April 21, 7-9 pm, and awards ceremony and opening April 22, 2011, 6-9 pm.  PAPA members participating include Kenn Backhaus, Mary DeLoyht Arendt and Ned Mueller. American Masters
The Salmagundi Club, New York, NY, hosts its fourth annual American Masters at SCNY show and sale May 3-21, 2011.  PAPA members included are Christopher Blossom, Don Demers, Matt Smith and John Stobart. (right: Matt Smith, Determined, oil, 20x16)

 

Southern Perspective
West Fraser is the subject of a solo exhibition, A Southern Perspective, at the Spartanburg Art Museum, SC, through  May 7, 2011. (left: Tide Lines, oil, 30x36)

 

The Business of Art
John Cosby is teaching a seminar on May 7, 2011, at the Sunset Center, Carpenter Room, Carmel, CA, on what it takes to run a successful art business. The interactive seminar runs from 9 am to 5 pm. For more information visit Cosby's website.

 

Settlers West
The final show of the season at Settlers West, Tucson, AZ, features Don Demers and Matt Smith. The show opens with a morning preview and evening sale on May 7, 2011.

 

Best of the Best
Frank LaLumia and Ned Mueller are participating in the Clymer Art Auction exhibition and gala, May 20-21, 2011, benefiting the Clymer Museum and Gallery, Ellensburg, WA.

 

Phippen Museum
The 37th Annual Phippen Western Art Show and Sale on Memorial weekend, May 28-30, 2011, includes Raleigh Kinney exhibiting in the outdoor booths and Ralph Oberg in the Miniature Masterpieces exhibit/sale.

 

Prix de West
Christopher Blossom, Ralph Oberg, Matt Smith and Skip Whitcomb are part of the Prix de West opening weekend events on June 10-11, 2011, at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum,  Oklahoma City, OK. The Wild Side
On Saturday,
June 11, 2011, PAPA Members Kenn Backhaus, John Budicin, John Cosby, Don Demers, Kevin Macpherson, Joe Paquet, Matt Smith, and Brian Stewart will be selling paintings of the leeward side of Catalina Island, also called The Wild Side, in a benefit exhibition for the Catalina Island Conservancy,  Avalon, CA.

 

Oklahoma Society of Impressionists
Joan LaRue is participating in the OSI exhibition Pure Color opening June 23, 2011, at the Oklahoma Heritage Center and Museum in Oklahoma City, OK.  The exhibition hangs through October 1, 2011. She is also the featured artist at the Afternoon Coffee on June 25, 2011, at the Howell Gallery, Oklahoma City.
