On Location with the Plein Air Painters of America
Fifty plein-air paintings by PAPA Signature Members will be on view and for sale through September 6, 2010, at the ARTspace Gallery at the Art Association of Jackson.  To preview additional paintings in the exhibition, visit the PAPA Facebook page. American Legacy--Our National Parks
Experience 35 of our nation's national treasures in museums across the country! PAPA's American Legacy begins its road tour this fall traveling through Smith Kramer Exhibition Services. Venues include City of Lake Charles, LA, November 5, 2010, through January 16, 2011; and Museum of the Southwest, Midland, TX, February 13-April 24, 2011. Additional venues may be viewed in the Press Room.  To view the entire exhibition, please go to The Haggin Museum web site, which organized the exhibit. A 92-page color catalog illustrates all the artworks from 35 National Park Service units/artists, including a historical essay by Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum. SIGNATURE MEMBER NEWS

 

And the winners are ...
Frank LaLumia won Best of Show at the Aquarious National 2010 Watercolor Exhibition for Maynard Dixon Country (left). Raleigh Kinney won third place for his watercolor Hermit's Rest at the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art (below right). Ned Mueller won the $5,000 Gold Award for his painting Monday Morning at the Plein-Air Easton Festival in Maryland.  He is also a finalist in the American Artist cover drawing competition, featured in the Summer 2010 issue, and won Third Place in the Raymar Fine Art Competition for his painting Lagos Harbor, Portugal.  

 

Brian Stewart in Grand Marais
Stewart is the awards judge, delivering a talk/presentation, and teaching a workshop at the Grand Marais Art Colony, through September 5, 2010. Now in its 8th year, the Grand Marais Plein Air Painting Competition focuses on the landscape of Cook County and Minnesota's rugged North Shore of Lake Superior.

 

Lynn Gertenbach at Ella Richardson
Gertenbach is featured in Wet Paint, a two-person show at Ella Richardson Fine Art, Charleston, SC, September 1-30, 2010. Following the opening, Gertenbach and 14 additional artists are headed to France to paint the villages surrounding Poitiers for an upcoming exhibition. (right: Twilight Glow, oil, 20x24) 

 

Prix de West
The annual Prix de West invitational exhibition and sale at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, OK, hangs through September 6, 2010. Participating PAPA members include  Christopher Blossom, whose painting Sunrise on the Golden Gate; Downeaster Benjamin F Packard  won the prestigious Prix de West Purchase Award placing it in the NCWHM permanent collection. Western Visions
The National Wildlife Museum, Jackson, WY, hosts its annual Western Visions celebration including the  Miniatures and More Sale on September 17, 2010. Featured PAPA artists are Christopher Blossom, Ralph Oberg, Matt Smith, and Skip Whitcomb (left: Skip Whitcomb, Afternoon Flurries, oil, 10x12).

 

Raleigh Kinney in Arizona
Kinney is participating in Plein Air on the Rim, the Grand Canyon Association's paintout and sale, hanging through November 28, 2010, in the Kolb Studio located on the South Rim. He is also participating in the Sedona Plein Air Festival, October 23-30, 2010. (right: As Big as You Think, watercolor, 14x11).

 

 

Jackson Hole Fall Festival

Scott Burdick is among the presenters at this event sponsored by American Artist in Laguna Beach, CA, September 23-26, 2010.

 

Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale
Taking place in Cody, WY, September 24-25, 2010, the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale features PAPA artists Ralph Oberg, Matt Smith, and Skip Whitcomb in the live auction and Ned Mueller in the Silent and Miniature Auction. (right: Matt Smith, A New Year, oil, 11x14)

 

Man Made
Knowlton Gallery, Lodi, CA, hosts a group show Man Made: Engineered Landscapes, September 28-November 27, 2010. Featured PAPA artists are Joe Paquet and Gil Dellinger.

 

International Masters
West Fraser is included in the Greenhouse Gallery International Master exhibition and sale October 1-22, 2010, in San Antonio, TX.

 

 

The Mitchell National Invitational
The Mitchell Museum in Trinadad, CO, hosts an invitational that includes PAPA members Ken Auster, John Budicin, Mary DeLoyht-Arendt, Gil Dellinger, Frank LaLumia, Kevin Macpherson, Ralph Oberg, Jean Perry, Gay Faulkenberry, Ron Rencher, Matt Smith, Brian Stewart, and Linda Tippetts. The show hangs through October 3, 2010.

 

Romantic Visions

American Impressionist Society
Scott Burdick and Kevin Macpherson are featured in the 11th Annual AIS National Juried Exhibition at Richland Fine Art, Nashville, TN, October 7-November 3, 2010.

Collectors' Reserve

Marine Art
Christopher Blossom is one of several leading marine artists on display at the Union League Club, New York City, NY, November 1-28, 2010. The exhibition is sponsored by J. Russell Jinishian Gallery.

 

Don Demers on View
Demers is the subject of a major one-man show, Turning Tides, Changing Light, at Vose Galleries, Boston, MA, November 6-December 18, 2010. Demers' work is also featured in the exhibition The Subject is Light: The Henry and Sharon Martin Collection of Contemporary Realist Paintings at the Cape Cod Museum of Art through November 7.
