On Location with the Plein Air Painters of America
Fifty plein-air paintings by PAPA Signature Members will be on view and for sale August 27 to September 6, 2010, at the ARTspace Gallery at the Art Association of Jackson. American Legacy--Our National Parks
Experience 35 of our nation's national treasures in museums across the country! PAPA's American Legacy begins its road tour this fall traveling through Smith Kramer Exhibition Services. Venues include City of Lake Charles, LA, November 5, 2010, through January 16, 2011; and Museum of the Southwest, Midland, TX, February 13-April 24, 2011. Additional venues may be viewed in the Press Room.  To view the entire exhibition, please go to The Haggin Museum web site, which organized the exhibit. A 92-page color catalog illustrates all the artworks from 35 National Park Service units/artists, including a historical essay by Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum. Random Acts of Giving
West Fraser has found a unique way to measure the goodwill of humanity. For the past eight months, he has created small paintings that he affixes in trees in locations such as Cumberland Island, Blufton, and Charleston, SC. The message to whomever finds the paintings is that they donate the painting (or funds) to a charity or to a cause that encourages other acts of giving and kindness. “My hope is that the Painting in a Tree project makes a difference,” he says. To learn about which paintings have been discovered and what they have "paid forward," go to Fraser’s website and/or his Facebook page. 

And the winner is ...
Ned Mueller won the $5,000 Gold Award for his painting Monday Morning (left) at the July 19-25, Plein-Air Easton Festival in Maryland.  He is also a finalist in the American Artist cover drawing competition, featured in the Summer 2010 issue.

Raleigh Kinney Watercolors
Kinney is participating in the 16th Annual Festival of Fine Art and Crafts on the Glensheen Historic Congdon Estate in Duluth, MN, August 14-15, 2010.  He is also featured in Plein Air on the Rim, the Grand Canyon Association's paintout and sale opening September 17, 2010, and hanging through November 28, 2010, in the Kolb Studio located on the South Rim.  (right: Grand Canyon, Larger than Life, watercolor, 16x20).

Sierra Foothills Conservancy
PAPA artists included in the gala benefit for the Sierra Foothills Conservancy include John Cosby, Gil Dellinger  (left: Mariposa) and Ray Roberts, whose works will be included in exhibitions taking place August 7, 2010, at AECOM Headquarters, Embarcadero in San Francisco, CA; at the Madden Library, Cal State, Fresno, August 12-26, 2010; and at the Great Central Valley Exhibition, August 29, 2010, at the California Art Academy.  

Western Rendezvous of Art
The annual Rendezvous show and sale takes place August 19-22, 2010, in Helena, MT. Participating PAPA Members include: Kenn Backhaus, John Budicin, Scott Burdick, Joan M. LaRue, Joseph Mendez, Ned Mueller (right: Rajisthan Patriarch, oil, 14x11), Ralph Oberg, Ray Roberts, Matt Smith, George Strickland, Linda Tippetts, and Skip Whitcomb. 

Down to the Sea
Knowlton Gallery hosts an exhibition focusing on the California coast through August 21, 2010. Gil Dellinger and Ray Roberts are participating.

American Artists Abroad
The Bennington Center for the Arts, Bennington, VT, hosts American Artists Abroad through August 22, 2010. PAPA members participating are Kenn Backhaus, John Budicin, Louise DeMore, Gay Faulkenberry, Lynn Gertenbach, Frank LaLumia (left: Self-Portrait in Tibet, watercolor, 16x12), Joan M. LaRue, Jean Perry, and Brian Stewart.

Maynard Dixon Country
The annual Maynard Dixon show and sale takes place August 27-29, 2010, in Mt. Carmel, UT. Participating PAPA members include John Budicin (right: Big Red, oil, 9x12), Ron Rencher, Ray Roberts, Matt Smith, George Strickland and Skip Whitcomb.

PAPA instructors
Two PAPA members will be teaching in Jackson Hole, WY, the week of August 29 to September 3, 2010: Gil Dellinger and Jean LeGassick.  For registration go to the Art Association of Jackson Hole.

Cafes, Bars and Other Diversions
John Cosby is part of a three-person show featuring urban life at Tree's Place Gallery, in Orleans, MA, August 14-29, 2010. Cosby focuses on restaurants and bars (left). 

The Mitchell National Invitational Show
Opening Thursday, August 26, 2010, at 5:00 pm, in Trinidad, CO, the Mitchell Museum hosts an invitational that includes PAPA members  John Budicin, Ralph Oberg, Gay Faulkenberry, Ron Rencher and Frank LaLumia. The show hangs through October 3, 2010.

Brian Stewart in Grand Marais
Stewart is the awards judge, delivering a talk/presentation, and teaching a workshop at the Grand Marais Art Colony, August 27-September 5, 2010. Now in its 8th year, the Grand Marais Plein Air Painting Competition focuses on the landscape of Cook County and Minnesota's rugged North Shore of Lake Superior.

Prix de West
The annual Prix de West invitational exhibition and sale at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, OK, hangs through September 6, 2010. Participating PAPA members include  Christopher Blossom, whose painting Sunrise on the Golden Gate; Downeaster Benjamin F Packard  won the prestigious Prix de West Purchase Award placing it in the NCWHM permanent collection. Western Visions
The National Wildlife Museum, Jackson, WY, hosts its annual Western Visions celebration including the  Miniatures and More Sale on September 17, 2010. Featured PAPA artists are Christopher Blossom (left: Sketch for Colonial Schooner, oil, 5x7), Ralph Oberg, Matt Smith, and Skip Whitcomb.

Jackson Hole Fall Festival
Northern Nomads, oil, 32x44 (right) by Ralph Oberg is one of two of his paintings featured in the September 18, 2010, Jackson Hole Art Auction. Oberg also has a Focus Show at Trailside Gallery in Jackson, September 6-19.
