PAPA EVENTS American Legacy: Our National Parks
Experience 35 of our nation's national treasures in museum galleries across the country! PAPA's American Legacy exhibition has finished its venue at The Haggin Museum and begins its road tour in the fall. Venues include City of Lake Charles, LA, November 7, 2010, through January 16, 2011; and Museum of the Southwest, Midland, TX, February 13-April 24, 2011. Stay tuned for new venues. A 92-page color catalog illustrates all the artworks from 35 National Park Service units/artists, including a historical essay by Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum. LaLumia takes over as PAPA President Frank LaLumia, who served as PAPA vice president in 2008 and 2009, takes over the position of PAPA President effective January 1. Frank has been a PAPA member since 1996 and is widely regarded for painting in both oils and watercolors. Born in Chicago, IL, he studed at Bradley University in Peoria, IL, and the American Academy of Art, Chicago. His paintings are found in the Museum of New Mexico, Santa Fe, NM; the Americana Museum, El Paso, TX; and the AR Mitchell Museum, Trinidad, CO. LaLumia is the author of Plein Air Painting in Oils and Watercolors, 2003 North Light Books, Cincinnati, OH. His work is included in the recent article "A Revolution of Snow" by Sarah A. Strickley in the February 2010 issue of Watercolor Artist. Study with the best! PAPA will be holding its Workshop & Seminar in conjunction with the Art Association of Jackson Hole on August 29 to September 3, 2010, in Jackson, Wyoming. PAPA Signature Members who will be teaching are: John Budicin, Gil Dellinger, Gay Faulkenberry, Frank LaLumia, Jean LeGassick, Joe Paquet, Ron Rencher and Linda Tippetts. Details to come shortly!  Coors Western Art Show & Sale The Coors Show & Sale in Denver, CO, takes place January 9-24, 2010, and features PAPA Members Gil Dellinger (left), Matt Smith, and Skip Whitcomb. Farmlands Linda Tippetts will be featured in a three-person show on the theme of Farmlands at Kneeland Gallery, Ketchum, ID, January 27-February 28, 2010. Masters of the American West The Autry National Center of the American West in Los Angeles, CA, announced its participating artists in the Masters show, including PAPA members Christopher Blossom, Matt Smith, and Ralph Oberg.The exhibition/sale is scheduled to open February 6, 2010.  Trailside Galleries, Scottsdale, AZ, features Matt Smith (right) in a showcase exhibition on February 1-14, with a reception on Thursday, February 11, from 7-9 pm. Creative Convergence Scott Burdick exhibits along with other artists in an exhibition inspired by San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, at the Cape Cod Museum, MA. A talk takes place February 12, from 1-2 pm, followed by an opening from 5:30-7:30 pm.

Kenn Backhaus named a Master The Masters' Advisory Committee of the Oil Painters of America has conferred Master Signature Member status to Kenn Backhaus for "exceptional merit of work and accomplishment in the field of representational art." Glenna Hartmann Invitational A signature member of PAPA, Glenna Hartmann passed away in 2008. In addition to her commitment to capturing the land in beautiful pastel paintings, Hartmann believed in conserving and preserving landscapes for future generations. Sixty California painters and friends exhibit in this exhibition, February 20-21, conducted by the Nature Conservancy of Santa Barbara, including PAPA members Ken Auster, John Budicin, Jean LeGassick, and Ray Roberts. A private reception, Friday, February 19, takes place at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
