American Legacy: Our National Parks

After a gala weekend opening in October, the exhibition remains on display at The Haggin Museum through January 10, 2010. Artworks are also for sale, including a special section of 18 paintings depicting Zion National Park. Click on the Signature Members name to see their park images, which are identified as American Legacy. A 92-page color catalog illustrates all the artworks from 35 National Park Service units/artists as outlined below ($20). An essay by Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum, provides a historical overview of artists in the parks. The exhibition begins a national tour in the spring of 2010. Stay tuned for future venues.

American Art in Miniature
The opening reception on November 5th of the Gilcrease Museum, American Art in Miniature includes the following PAPA Signature Members: Kenn Backhaus, John Budicin, Gay Faulkenberry, Joan LaRue, Kevin Macpherson, and Matt Smith. Budicin Wins Award
Six PAPA members participated in the 11th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational  held in mid-October. John Budicin, who has never been known to paint fast, won the Southwest Art Quick Draw Award!

Beaux Arts!
Looking for a reason to contribute to creativity?  The Scottsdale Artists' School Beaux Arts annual fundraiser helps the school continue its Youth Academy, providing scholarships to workshops and weekly lessons. It takes place Saturday, November 14, and includes PAPA artists John Budicin, Mary DeLoyht-Arendt, Ralph Oberg, Jean Perry, and Matt Smith. Small Works, Great Wonders

PAPA announces 2010 Workshop & Seminar
PAPA will be holding its Workshop & Seminar the last week of August 2010 in Jackson, Wyoming. Details to come shortly! In the meantime, PAPA Members are teaching in workshops across the country and in their studios. To participate in venues in California, Texas, and Arizona go to the PAPA Member Workshops.  

American Impressionist Society

Demers plein-air recognition
Don Demers recently won the Stobart Foundation Award at the 30th Annual International Mystic  Marine Art Exhibition in Connecticut, which hangs through November 15, 2009. Demers won the award for his 8-by-10 inch painting Boat Shop (left). The award  recognizes the finest qualities of painting done on location, including capturing the light and atmosphere of the scene.  Demers will also be exhibiting plein-air paintings at the Union League Club in New York City in October, including an informal presentation on October 22. 

Masters of the American West
The Autry National Center of the American West in Los Angeles, CA, announced its participating artists in the Masters show, including PAPA members Christopher Blossom, Matt Smith, and Ralph Oberg.The exhibition/sale is scheduled to open February 6, 2010.
