Spring is around the corner, and March is a busy month for Signature Members of the Plein-Air Painters of America. Several members are teaching workshops in Arizona, Texas, California and Florida (see below). And many others are in southern Utah during the first week of the month to paint Zion National Park for the exhibition and sale at The Haggin Museum. It's a great time renewal! UPCOMING PAPA EVENTS
American Legacy: Our National Parks Thirty-eight top plein-air painters document National Park Service sites across the United States in this exhibition of more than 100 artworks. Each artist has selected a protected landscape that has been added to our national patrimony over the past two centuries.
Six outstanding Guest Artists join PAPA Members this year. Quang Ho is painting Arizona's famed Grand Canyon. Jeremy Lipking is documenting California's Kings Canyon National Park. Kathryn Stats reveals the subtle tones of Capitol Reef National Park in her home state of Utah. Cumberland Island National Seashore off southeastern Georgia is the subject of West Fraser. Joseph McGurl has taken his paints and easel into Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area off Massachusetts' Atlantic shore. And Walt Gonske tackles the breathtaking Black Canyon of the Gunnison, in Colorado, whose name derives from a gorge so deep and narrow that sunlight rarely penetrates it, casting the canyon walls in dark shadow (right). Put the opening weekend sale, October 2-3, 2009, on your calendar and contact Susan Hallsten McGarry,
