The Allure of Water
PAPA's 23rd Exhibition & Sale
is on view and for sale through January 22, 2012, at The Haggin Museum, Stockton, California. More than 100 paintings focus on water, our most precious resource for beauty, enjoyment and survival.  Six Guest Artists joined PAPA members:  Bill Anton, Kathleen Dunphy, Andy Evansen, Jerry Fritzler, Michael Lynch, Jim Morgan and Randall Sexton. American Legacy--Our National Parks
PAPA's 22nd Exhibition and Sale is on view  at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery, Shreveport, LA, December 6, 2011 to February 12, 2012.  On March 8, 2012, it opens at the Booth Western Art Museum, Cartersville, GA. Future venues may be viewed in the Press Room.  To view the entire exhibition, please go to The Haggin Museum web site, which organized the exhibit. A 92-page color catalog illustrates all the artworks from 35 National Park Service units/artists, including a historical essay by Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum. IN PRINT, ONLINE & VIDEO
Jean Perry's book Celebrating 30 Years of Plein Air Painting is featured in the Monday, December 5, Outdoor Painter online newsletter.
Brian Stewart
is included in a KSMQ "Off 90" video episode on the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, Winona, MN. The video can be viewed on YouTube, Brian's segment starts about 14 minutes into the program.
Don Demers is the subject of a video titled Marine Painting: Art of the Wave available through Interweave Press. When you are painting the sea, says Demers in the trailer of the video, "You paint the large basic shapes first, the strength and the power of it ... the nuances, the subtlety happen later,"
Lynn Gertenbach, Jean Perry and Linda Tippetts are part of a landscape article titled Nature's Magic in the November/December 2011 issue of Art of the West.
Gil Dellinger is featured in an article on the Coors Western Art Show (see below) in the January 2012 issue of Southwest Art.
The February/March 2012 issue of PleinAir includes an article on Jerry Fritzler, a cover story on Ken Auster, and a brief article on the Chioggia, Italy, painting trip that Kenn Backhaus, Joan LaRue and Jean Perry took in the fall of 2011.

 

GIVING BACK
Don Demers has earmarked the proceeds from his 18x28-inch painting Rumbling In (right)  to go to the Salmagundi Club, NYC, Restoration project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
On December 9, Linda Tippetts provided charcoal and a life-drawing session to students at the Elk Creek Hutterite Colony, near her home in Augusta, MT.

 

WARM WINTER WORKSHOPS

AND THE WINNERS ARE!
Ray Roberts won Best of Show at the October Laguna Plein Air Invitational, Laguna Beach, CA, for his plein-air painting (right) High Tide--Laguna Bluffs, oil, 20x24. Ned Mueller recently won 2nd Place in the Pastel Journal's portrait contest for his 23x15 pastel Flamenco Dancer (left). He also won first place in Plein Air Salon show; and third place at the October Bold Brush Painting Competition.

 

SMALL WORKS, GREAT WONDERS
Ralph Oberg and Matt Smith are part of this invitational exhibition on view through January 3, 2012, at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, OK.

LITTLE GEMS FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Matt Smith is participating in the Trailside Galleries Holiday Miniature show in Scottsdale, AZ, December 1-31, 2011. Kenn Backhaus is part of a small works show at Highlands Art Gallery, December 2-30, 2011, during the Bernardsville, NJ, Art Walk. Greenwich Workshop Gallery, in Seymour, CT, is hosting a Small Works sale that includes Ken Auster, Chris Blossom, and Don Demers, opening December 3, 2011.   Saks Galleries, Denver, CO, presents the AAI Small Gems show, December 3-31, 2011. Kevin Macpherson and Ray Roberts are participating. Debra Huse Gallery opens Holiday Treasures from 10 am to 5 pm, featuring works by Kenn Backhaus and John Budicin,   (right: Kenn Backhaus, Early Snow Bernardsville Train Station, oil, 9x12). Gay Faulkenberry is part of a small works show at the Depot Art Gallery, Norman, OK, with an opening reception December 9, 6-9 pm. The show hangs through December.

 

LET IT SNOW!
Gil Dellinger is part of an exhibition of works done in snowy Northern California and the Sierras at Knowlton Gallery, Lodi, CA,  through January 14, 2012.

 

THE POETRY OF SNOW
Kenn Backhaus is part of a three-person show at Highlands Art Gallery, January 7-28, 2012, with a reception on January 7 and open house on January 8.

 

KINNEY ANNOUNCES 2012 EXHIBITION SCHEDULE
Raleigh Kinney announced that he will be showing his work at the Carefree Art & Wine Festival, January 13-15, 2012, and March 3-4, 2012, and the 2nd Annual Wigwam Festival of Fine Art, Prescott, AZ, February 10-12, 2012 .

 

COORS WESTERN ART EXHIBIT & SALE

KEYNOTE ADDRESS
Joe Paquet will be the keynote speaker at the California Art Club Winter Art Symposium, January 21-22, 2012, Fort Mason Conference Center, San Francisco, CA. His topic, Creativity & Authenticity, is delivered at 8:00 am on Sunday. He is also doing a painting demonstration from 1-3 pm. 

 

IMPRESSIONS OF FRANCE
Lynn Gertenbach is participating in a group show at Segil Fine Art, Old Town Monrovia, CA, with paintings of French life, January 21-February 21, 2012.

 

KEN AUSTER
Auster is part of a two-man show at Jones & Terwilliger Galleries, Palm Desert, CA, opening on January 18, 2012, with a reception from 4-8 pm.

 

MASTERS OF THE AMERICAN WEST
The Autry Museum, Los Angeles, CA, has announced participating artists in the Masters show, February 4 to March 18, 2012, including Peter Adams, Christopher Blossom, Ralph Oberg, and Matt Smith. (right: Matt Smith, Shadow Lake, oil, 24x30)

 

AMERICAN MINIATURES
Settlers West Galleries hosts is annual miniatures show February 11, 2012. Participating PAPA members include Don Demers, Joan LaRue, Ralph Oberg, Jean Perry, and Matt Smith.

 

THE RUSSELL
Linda Tippetts' 36x24 oil painting Aspen Dance (left) has been accepted in The Russell Auction, benefiting the C.M. Russell Museum, Great Falls, MT. The exhibition and sale take place March 15-17, 2012.

 

GILCREASE RENDEZVOUS
Matt Smith is featured in the Gilcrease Rendezvous Reunion, April 12-14, 2012, at the Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, OK 74127. The evening with the artists and art sale takes place Friday, April 13.

 

CONVENTION & EXPO
PleinAir Magazine presents the 1st Annual Plein Air Convention & Expo on April 12-15, 2012, in Las Vegas, NV. PAPA members who will be teaching and/or speaking include: Peter Adams, Ken Auster, Kenn Backhaus, Jean LeGassick,  Ned Mueller, and Matt Smith.
