LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENTS
At the recent Plein Air Convention in Monterey, CA, lifetime achievement awards were given to two PAPA members. John Cosby announced that PAPA founder Denise Burns (left), artist, teacher, and activist was the recipient of the 2013 PAPA Lifetime Achievement Award. Don Demers announced, along with Eric Rhoads, that PAPA Honorary Member John Stobart was one of two recipients of the 2013 Plein Air Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award. PAPA DVD SERIES LAUNCHES
Streamline Publishing, which produces the website Outdoor Painter and the bi-monthly magazine PleinAir is working with PAPA members on a Streamline Premiums Art Video series that chronicles on-location demonstrations. The first three videos feature Don Demers doing a nautical scene,  Ken Auster creating a street scene and John Cosby finding beauty in a habor fishing shack. In addition to learning the philosophy and techniques that make these artists the top workshop instructors in the country, these indispensable learning tools offer guidelines in maximizing your efforts even under a variety of outdoor challenges, including volatile weather and environmental congestion. AMERICAN LEGACY--OUR NATIONAL PARKS
PAPA's 22nd Exhibition and Sale opens at at the  Dane G. Hansen Memorial Museum, Logan, KA, through June 16, 2013. More than 90 paintings document 35 units in the National Park Service. The exhibition opens at its last traveling venue on July 14, 2013, at the Michelson Museum of of Art, Marshall, TX. To view the entire exhibition, please go to The Haggin Museum web site, which organized the exhibit. A 92-page color catalog illustrates all the artworks from 35 National Park Service units/artists, including a historical essay by Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum. CELEBRATING SUMMER!
PAPA's upcoming exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum, Wausau, WI, opens with a weekend of events on June 21, 2013. We are celebrating summer and will have have a catalog document the show and a paintout on Saturday, June 22.  The exhibition is on view through August 25, 2013. AND THE WINNER IS ...
Joe McGurl won a $42,000 purchase award and the First Place in Landscape award for his painting (left)  Creation in Time and Space (oil, 30x40) at the 2012-2013 Art Renewal Center Salon. He also won the Plein Air Magazine Award for his painting (right) Twilight from the Palisades (oil, 30x40).
John Budicin won the Ted Goerschner OPAM Memorial Award of Excellence for Evening Eucalyptus (oil, 16x20) at the Oil Painters of America National Juried Competition, Fredericksburg, TX.

 

 

HERE COMES 'DA JUDGE
Don Demers is the Awards Judge for the July 15-21, 2013, Plein Air Easton show and sale in Easton, MD.
Kenn Backhaus is the Awards Judge at the Door County Plein Air Festival, WI, July 22-27, 2013, and for the American Impressionist Society, October 2013 at M Gallery, Charleston, SC.
Ned Mueller is the Awards Judge for the Oil Painters of America Western Regional Exhibition, Southwind Gallery, Topeka, KS, September 6-October 26, 2013. He teaches an Art of Seeing Workshop prior to the event September 4-5, 2013.

Jean LeGassick is featured in the Winter 2013 issue of the California Art Club Newsletter.
Kathleen Dunphy and Linda Tippetts are  scheduled for articles in the June 2013 issue of Southwest Art magazine.

Art of the National Parks: Historic Connections, Contemporary Interpretations, a 432-page book, is scheduled for release on  June 1, 2013, including PAPA members: Kenn Backhaus, John Budicin, Gil Dellinger, Don Demers, Kathleen Dunphy, Kevin Macpherson, Joe McGurl, Ralph Oberg, Joe Paquet, Ron Rencher, and  Skip Whitcomb.

ART OF THE NATIONAL PARKS
In conjunction with the publication of the book Art of the National Parks, Argosy Gallery, Bar Harbor, ME, hosts an exhibition focusing on images of Acadia National Park, opening June 15, 2013, followed by a special exhibition and sale July 27-28, 2013. Participating PAPA members include Don Demers, Kathleen Dunphy, and Joe McGurl.
