Marlin Linville, a much loved and respected PAPA Signature Member, passed away September 20, 2001, following a prolonged illness.
Born in 1950 in Shelbyville, IN, he lived in Round Rock, TX, where he pursued a career in painting outdoors.
“Art is a tool used to enhance life,” Linville once said. Indeed, his art enhanced the lives of countless collectors who were drawn to his sensitivity to light and color in the landscape.
Linville received his bachelor's degree in government from the University of Texas, Austin, in 1974. A highly regarded teacher himself, he shared his knowledge with others at the PAPA annual workshops in Bennington, VT, and Steamboat Springs, CO.
"Everyone carries memories of places and things that moved them," Linville said. "These memories are the essence of an emotional response. As an artist, I attempt to understand and translate that response so the viewer is free to enter the painting and share the experience with me."
He is survived by his wife Gail and daughter Sara. Donations, if desired, may be made to the Marlin Linville Memorial Fund, Account #6706430342, Wells Fargo Bank, 505 Round Rock Ave., Round Rock, TX 78664, 512.344.8311.
