FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 21 APRIL 2011 It’s the substance from which all life is formed and is vital to existence. It comprises approximately two-thirds of the human body and two-thirds of Earth’s surface. It exists in liquid, solid and vapor forms and has been the source of civilizations and legends.
Water is essential to our physical sustenance and psychological bliss and has inspired artists from the earliest times. Today’s on-location painters are no less intrigued by the challenge of capturing the illusion, movement, and infinite moods of water in pigments on canvas and paper. Experience water as you’ve never seen it in The Allure of Water ≈ On Location with the Plein-Air Painters of America, which opens at The Haggin Museum, Stockton, California, on October 15, 2011, with a weekend of special events. The exhibition is on view through January 22, 2012, and documented in a color catalogue.
PAPA Members and Guest Artists went into the field to experience and translate everything from rain, fog, and clouds to lakes, rivers, and oceans, snowfields and glaciers, swamps and marshes, fountains and waterfalls. More than 100 paintings comprise PAPA’s 23rd exhibition and sale offering an immersion in water’s myriad forms and guaranteed to buoy the viewer’s appreciation of a resource that is more precious than ever.
