Thank you for visiting the PLEIN-AIR PAINTERS of AMERICA web site.

Founded in 1986, PAPA is a fellowship of professional artists dedicated to the historic tradition of painting directly from life. Whether working outdoors or in the studio, PAPA members carry forward this tradition by exploring and responding to the timeless beauty that surrounds us all.

Experience this beauty by perusing the artworks of our members reproduced on our site. Better yet, bring timeless beauty  into your life by attending PAPA workshops and exhibitions. This year eight Signature Members will be mentoring artists in the Annual PAPA Workshop and Seminar in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and our 22nd Annual Exhibition and Sale, American Legacy: Our National Parks is traveling to venues throughout the country. This intimate on-location look at some of the nation's most dramatic and beautiful landscapes, monuments, and historic sites will conjure warm memories of past visits or entice you to make a trip to sites that have been preserved for the joy and renewal of all Americans.

2009 EXHIBITION & SALE

AMERICAN LEGACY:  OUR NATIONAL PARKS, On-Location with the Plein Air Painters of America, begins traveling this fall. More than 100 paintings by 35 PAPA Members and Guest Artists document parks stretching from coast to coast and border to border. Paintings in the exhibition are found on each member's web page under the heading American Legacy.

Jean LeGassick's Glacier Trail View from Great Basin National Park in Nevada is a part of the exhibition. All of the artworks are for sale. The entire exhibition and special Zion section are viewable at The Haggin website, with prices. Inquiries about purchases should be made to Kylee Denning at The Haggin Museum, 209.940.6333, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

A 92-page color catalog illustrates all the artworks in the exhibition ($20). Learn about the unique qualities that brought the sites into the National Park system and each artist's experiences in painting their chosen park. An essay by Jean Stern, executive director of the Irvine Museum, provides a historical overview of artists whose paintings persuaded Congress to preserve these landscapes of exceptional drama and beauty. For purchase information, contact Patty Huntley at The Haggin Museum's bookstore (209.940.6319).
